Bill Gerk and Eric Falkenberg carefully arranged more than 3,500 Campbell’s soup cans at Save-On-Foods Orchard Plaza Thursday.
The operations manager and assistant operations manager weren’t stocking shelves, they were preparing the display for the 6th annual Help Hunger Disappear program.
Campbell Company of Canada has once again partnered with Save-On-Foods and Cooper’s Foods to help alleviate hunger in communities throughout the country.
A large display featuring the word “hunger” has been built at the Save-On Foods stores in Orchard Plaza and the Mission. Customers will be offered the chance to purchase soup for donation to the Kelowna Community Food Bank until the word has disappeared.
“It’s the third year we’ve built the (word) in this storeā¦it’s a fantastic fundraiser for the food bank,” said Duncan Gardiner, assistant manager of Save-On-Foods Orchard Plaza.
“People are very generous when it comes to the food bank, a lot of people realize the importance of it.”
Customers will be given a coupon to save $1 if they purchase any four Campbell’s products and $1 will also be donated to Food Banks Canada for every coupon used.
Help Hunger Disappear runs from April 5 to 13 this year and also involves Cooper’s Foods locations in Rutland and Glenmore.
Approximately 900,000 Canadians rely on food banks and 3,500 individuals visit the Kelowna Community Food Bank each month.
