The Calgary Police Service this week charged a Kelowna man in relation to the death of a two-year-old boy, nearly 10 years earlier.

At approximately 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, 2005, police were called to a residence in the 4500 block of 7 Ave S.E. Officers were told EMS was responding to a call at a residence where a child was in medical distress.

“The child, Blake Harvey was taken to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005,” reads a press release from the police service.

“At the time it was determined that Harvey’s injuries were not consistent with a fall down the stairs, as stated by the caregiver who was at the home. An autopsy confirmed his death was a homicide.”

Ryan John Podhorodecki, 32, of Kelowna, British Columbia, is charged with manslaughter.

Podhorodecki was arrested yesterday, Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, in Victoria, British Columbia and has since been transferred to Calgary.
