Kelowna man charged with 2008 murder

Shawn Lee Wruck, 39, has been charged with one count of First Degree Murder in relation to the 2008 death of Shannon Maureen Collins.

Shawn Lee Wruck, 39, of Kelowna has been charged with one count of First Degree Murder in relation to the 2008 death of Shannon Maureen Collins.

Collins’ remains were found June 5, 2008 in a wooded area in the Belvedere Heights subdivision in Strathcona County, AB.

Wruck was arrested Thursday in Kelowna and is in the process of being transported back to Alberta. The exact date and time of his first court appearance is not yet known.

“This investigation presented numerous challenges from the beginning, but through a strong sense of determination and a never give up attitude, investigators were able to bring this matter to a successful conclusion,” said Supt. Gary Steinke of the Strathcona County RCMP.

“We hope by announcing charges today that this will give some degree of closure to the victim’s family and friends.”

The RCMP Serious Crimes Branch was also involved in the investigation.
