A Kelowna man faces a number of criminal charges after brandishing a gun in the downtown core Saturday afternoon.
While on patrol in the Bernard Avenue area Aug. 9, a member of the Kelowna RCMP was approached by several witnesses who reported that a man was observed brandishing a handgun and threatening to harm himself, said Const. Jesse O’Donaghey.
The 23-year-old man, who did not threaten any members of the public, fled on foot when one f the witnesses tried to intervene.
“Police conducted extensive patrols of the downtown and quickly located the suspect in the 700 Block of Saucier Avenue,” said O’Dohaghey. “Through the successful use of police training and deescalation techniques, the man was arrested without incident. Although uninjured, he was transported to Kelowna General Hospital for any treatment he might require.
He’s now facing charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and unauthorized possession of a weapon. He will appear in court Sept. 11.
