A Kelowna man, 35, facing charges of dangerous driving causing death in Surrey, illegally took to local roads this weekend, putting Rutland motorists at risk.
James Aaron Le Stage came to the attention of Mounties around 11:20 a.m. July 15, when they received a report of a possible impaired driver on Highway 33 at Loseth Drive.
“A witness said that a Black GMC Yukon was unable to maintain its lane and had been driving down the wrong side of the road,” said Const. Kris Clark.
“Police caught up with the vehicle on Springfield Road at Belgo Road and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and blew a ‘fail’ during a roadside screening test.”
Police did a records check and learned he had been placed under certain conditions by a judge stemming from 2010 charges of Impaired Driving Causing Death, Dangerous Driving Causing Death and Causing a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in Death in Surrey.
His licence had also been suspended.
(He) was taken to the Kelowna detachment to continue the impaired investigation but he failed to provide breath samples. The man was held in custody and is to appear in court sometime Monday, said Clark.
