A Kelowna man is recovering in Vancouver hospital with severe burns after allegedly setting ablaze a row of pyramid cedars and possibly himself early Friday morning.
Members of the Kelowna RCMP were conducting regular patrols along KLO Road when they observed the Kelowna Fire Department extinguishing a brush fire at the Okanagan University College located at 1000 KLO Road, Feb. 14 shortly after 1 a.m.
No source of ignition could be located and the fire appeared to be suspicious in nature. A 40-year-old Kelowna man was located by campus security asleep in another part of the school, said Const. Kris Clark.
“He was found to be very intoxicated and his left leg was smoking having been badly burned. The man was rushed to hospital and was to be transferred to Vancouver for treatment the following day.”
The investigation is ongoing.
The man, who is known to police, faces a possible charge of Arson to Property. A court-compelling document will be requested upon charge approval.
