Kelowna mayor spent triple other candidates to win

When it came to raising the most for last year's municipal election, Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran won by a landslide.

Elections B.C. released its general elections disclosure findings Monday, and Basran’s list of contributions amounted to a whopping $75,841.

It more than tripled the nearly $22,000 that Sharon Shepherd was able to drum up in the lead up to the November 2014 election.

Just over $56,000 of what Basran raised came from individual donations. Chipping in amounts ranging from $50 to $2,000, well-known names from the tech, real estate, development and tourism industry could be found.

In the corporate category, a number of developers chipped in donations amounting to  $19,462.

Comparatively, Shepherd raised $5,373 from corporations and $12,896 from individuals. Unincorporated business and commercial organizations amounted to $3,492 of all funds raised.
