The man charged in the killing of Kelowna woman Amy Jane Parkes will face a judge and jury next Spring.
Ryan James Quigley, 35, was scheduled Monday morning for his second degree murder trial. The facts of the case will be laid out to a jury in Kelowna from May 25 to June 26 2015.
A voir dire will be held April 20, 2015, marking roughly one year since Parkes, 35, was reported missing and ultimately found dead.
Shortly before 10 a.m. April 1, police found her body in her residence on the 3700 block of Lakeshore Road.
“The circumstances surrounding her death were deemed to be suspicious and the Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit commenced a homicide investigation,” said Const. Kris Clark, at the time of the investigation.
Two days later, plainclothes officers located the suspect vehicle on the 500 block of Coronation Avenue and Quigley was found to be inside. He was taken into custody without incident
Quigley, who was believed to be engaged to Parkes at some point before her death, was then charged with second degree murder. The cause of Parkes’s death remains unknown.
There was some confusion at the courthouse during the trial as the accused shares a first and last name with a man recently found dead in West Kelowna.
The accused, however, is presumably in good enough health to stand trial and still incarcerated.
