Kelowna RCMP trying to prevent auto theft

Okanagan police trying to prevent auto theft with public plea to clean up after one's self

Always lock your vehicle.

This is the message from Kelowna RCMP, issued in a statement Wednesday morning.

“Auto theft is on the decline, but thefts from vehicle have had a different trend,” said Cnst. Kris Clark, Kelowna RCMP spokesman. “Not only are they on the rise, but the vast majority could easily have been prevented.”

The RCMP say it is unwise to leave any property inside a vehicle and that locking the vehicle can deter a lot of problems.

“With nearly 40% of all theft reports being thefts from vehicle, and at least 67% of those occurring in unlocked vehicles, it becomes readily apparent how following these two simple rules would positively affect crime prevention,” said Clark.

Protect your property: lock out auto crime.
