Beginning Friday, July 22 at 7 a.m., until Saturday July 23 at 3 p.m., small sections of roads throughout the city will be closed for a few hours at a time to allow crews to apply a surface treatment that helps with asphalt maintenance and preservation.
Weather permitting, the anticipated road closures include:
• Swamp Road (Crawford Road to South of Mission Creek): Friday, July 22 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• KLO Road (Mission Creek to East Kelowna Road): Friday, July 22 from 8 p.m. to midnight
• Glenmore Road (McKinley Road to Slater Road): Saturday, July 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The road treatment consists of spraying a rejuvenating agent on the asphalt and applying a fine layer of sand which is then worked into the surface. The sand remains on the road for three to four weeks before it is swept away, leaving the asphalt more resistant to wear and extending its lifespan.
Cyclists in particular should be aware of sand remaining on the affected roads for three or four weeks after the treatment and consider using alternate routes.
The City of Kelowna appreciates the patience of residents, businesses and motorists while road work is underway.
