In support of World Homeless Day on Oct. 10  members of the Inn from the Cold (IFTC) Board of Directors are staying the night in the 35-bed homeless shelter in Kelowna.

“This is a great opportunity to raise awareness around homelessness and to showcase our shelter,” said Jan Schulz, Executive Director at IFTC. “There are many people in our community who benefit from shelter during the colder months of the year, and our goal is to ensure that no one sleeps on the streets.

Those participating in the sleepover include several members of the IFTC Board of Directors, as well as volunteers.

“We welcome anyone to come in and check it out,” said Robert Zivkovic, IFTC Board Member. “The shelter is a great facility that will house a number of people in need over the winter and we’d like to show the community how important this place is.”

The event at the Kelowna shelter, located at 1157 Sutherland Ave, is open to the public from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. Community members and media are invited to tour the building, ask questions, and take photos. Donations will also be accepted.

IFTC is a charitable organization offering a number of services and programs to the most vulnerable members of the community. The cost of these services and programs is supported through organized fundraising events, in-kind donations received, and from dedicated volunteers. Visit www.innfromthecoldkelowna.org or phone the office at 250 448 6403 or the shelter at 250-448-5153 to learn more.
