Six Kelowna-area organizations have received community gaming grants from the province totalling more than $78,000.
The money, from the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development,has gone to:
· Kelowna Juvenile Baseball Association ($10,000)
· Winfield Figure Skating Club ($15,575)
· Kelowna Canada Day Concerts Society ($9,375)
· Dolyna Ukrainian Cultural Society ($3,750)
· Kelowna Volleyball Club ($18,720)
· Okanagan Chito-Ryu Society ($20,960)
The local groups are some of the 112 recipients across the province that will share $3,011,350 in the latest round of grants from provincial gaming revenue.
Grant recipients in this latest round of funding offer programs in arts and culture, human and social services, environment and sport.
“The goal of the community gaming grant program is to help the people who volunteer their own time to improve their communities. It’s great to see the spirit of volunteerism alive and well in and around Kelowna, said Westside-Kelowna MLA Ben Stewart.
Last year the province distributed a total of $135 million in gaming grants to 5,300 eligible community programs and services.
