A distraught 17-year-old Kelowna female may face multiple charges of assault after police responded to an incident at Okanagan Mission Secondary School Wednesday.
Kelowna Mounties received a report of a distraught teen who was slapping students in the hallway of OKM at 12:40 p.m.
The female apparently discarded her shirt before entering the premises. While inside the school, she allegedly assaulted a number of people, none of whom suffered serious injuries, before fleeing on foot.
Police located the girl on Lakeshore Road a short time later and determined that she may have been experiencing an unknown mental crisis.
The teen was taken to the hospital for any treatment she may have required.
The Kelowna girl was determined to not be a student of OKM; the investigation is ongoing.
She was released from police custody into the care of medical practitioners and was issued documents compelling her to court at a later date, as well as prohibiting her attendance to OKM in order to further safeguard students and staff.
According to Const. Kris Clark, neither alcohol nor drugs are considered to be a factor in the incident.
He added the students didn’t appear to be targeted, and prior Kelowna RCMP contact with the female has been extremely limited and not in a mental health capacity.
