Josh Zakala had good reason to catch his breath Saturday morning after posting the fastest time in the annual Across The Lake swim race on Okanagan Lake.
In what was a near photo finish, Zakala edged out second place Jon Bird as the two emerged from the water on Hot Sands Beach deadlocked in a tie. Zakala managed to race the final steps to the finish lines on the beach quicker than Bird.
More than 900 swimmers took part in the annual event, with 50 per cent of the entrants taking part for the first time.
