Kelowna turns out in support of United Way

Annual Maxine DeHart-Ramada United Way Drive-Thur Breakfast raises close to $41,000.

The breakfast bags, all 1,500 of them, were all gone as of 9:30 a.m. this morning, but motorists were still lining up outside the Ramada hotel off Enterprise Way willing to make their contribution to the 16th annual Maxine DeHart-Ramada United Way Drive-Thru Breakfast.

Maxine DeHart said today’s event raised close to $41,000 with late donations still trickling in, second in the history of the event started in 1998 for fundraising totals only to the 10th anniversary drive-thru.

“The people of Kelowna really came through for us and the United Way again this year,” said DeHart. “I was overwhelmed by the response. We had gone through all our 1,500 bags and people were still lining up hoping to get one.”

DeHart said sponsors helped provide a breakfast goodie bag with a value of about $125, including a $75 Big White Ski Resort lift pass in every bag.

“We started at 5:30 this morning and the traffic never stopped,” DeHart said.
