Lisa Hope McKinnon, whose father is Kelowna’s top cop, made a brief court appearance Thursday to deal with a series of drug charges related to an alleged dial-a-dope scheme.
McKinnon, 22, faces one charge of trafficking in heroin as well as two counts for the possession of heroin and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
After the series of charges were read to her, McKinnon told the court she had yet to obtain legal counsel, but intended to access legal aid.
She will return to court on April 26, but has been told she must have counsel and enter a plea by June 21.
Supt. Bill McKinnon has not made any statements about his daughter’s arrest, which came to light last month.
RCMP said at that time, as soon as they became aware that his daughter would be part of the investigation, steps were taken to insulate the superintendent from any knowledge of the case.
“This event goes to show that nobody is immune from drugsĀ or criminal activity and he like anybody else is a victim as a result of this,” saidĀ Insp. Rick Flewelling, following the arrest.
