After 17 years leading the Regional District of Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission, Robert Fine is moving on. But he’s not going far.
Fine has accepted the Director of Business and Entrepreneurial Development position at the City of Kelowna effective March 2, 2015. He replaces Jim Paterson who is retiring Dec. 23.
“The City is really excited to welcome Robert to our team,” says Mayor Colin Basran. “Robert has a demonstrated track record of building strong relationships to advance business opportunities that enhance our community and surrounding area.”
In addition to acting as the liaison between the City and the business community Robert will look for innovative ways for the City to generate revenue outside of taxation and user fees to help offset costs for increased services and amenities as our community grows.
Regional Board Chair Gail Given says, “We’re sad that Robert will be leaving the EDC but pleased he’ll still be working in the Central Okanagan and we certainly congratulate him on this new opportunity with the City and wish him well. We’re confident that the close working relationship Robert developed between the Economic Development Commission and the City will continue.”
Given adds, “During his 17 years at the helm of the EDC, Robert has shown outstanding leadership and innovation. The Commission and its programs have been recognized with numerous economic development awards in British Columbia, nationally and internationally for programs such as the ‘Business Walks,’ ‘Work Where You Play’ and ‘The Okanagan Opportunity – 100 Reasons to do Business in Kelowna and the Okanagan Valley.’”
The Regional District will begin the search for a new Economic Development Commissioner in the weeks and months ahead.
