It’s that time of the year again, and the Agassiz Dairy Farmers, will be hosting their annual banquet and dance. The annual banquet and awards ceremony will celebrate the best that local dairy has to offer.
“The main reason for the awards is to keep track of the records for milk production, butter fat content, protein and somatic cell count, among other things, which provide the farmer with the information for herd management and quality of milk,” said event organizer Wilma Struys of the Kent Dairy Herd Association.
Keeping a system of checks and balances helps to ensure a better quality of milk for the consumer according to Struys.
“We see improvements in genetic traits and all aspects of the industry and we’re always striving to educate the public by providing more profound record keeping – it’s about providing a superior product for the customer,” said Cornelis Hertgers of Cordine Farms.
The evening is open to the public and will be featuring performer Johnny Bagpipe for entertainment.
The event will be held at the Agassiz Agricultural Hall with Happy Hour starting at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7:30 p.m., the DHI awards presentation at 8:15 p.m., followed by entertainment at 9 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets at $35 a head, please call Jack at 604-997-4625, or Gerald at 604-819-8901.
