The Village of Keremeos has assembled its annual report for 2020 to be presented to council.

The report breaks down what was accomplished out of the goals set out for the year and through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The report will be presented to the village council at their June 24 meeting.

The wastewater treatment plant upgrade finished the design phase and is awaiting approval before progress can continue.

Victory Hall received a replacement accessibility ramp and the info centre received a wheelchair-accessible section to the counter.

The community’s evacuation plan was completed in June, 2020, and the community’s resiliency project, which includes making neighborhoods FireSmart, was completed in December.

Flood mapping was completed in November 2020, and the project continues with flood risk assessment and mitigation planning in 2021.

The village’s goals of working on housing needs, child care planning and indigenous cultural safety was only partially completed in 2020, as the community did not receive the indigenous cultural safety grant.

COVID-19 let to several communication goals, such as the Coffees with the Mayor and promotion of tourism for the community being canceled for or postponed for 2020.

In 2020, the village issued 28 building permits, 140 dog licenses and 144 business licenses.

The report also lays out what the village’s goals are for 2021.

Some of those goals carry on from the previous year’s works, including the wastewater treatment plant.

Other goals include upgrading Victory Hall as a public venue with wifi, AV equipment and an upgraded kitchen.

Signage at the ends of town and downtown, new brackets, banners and downtown benches and trashcans are also part of the village’s goals for the year.

For 2021, some projects are listed as dependent on grants, such as the planned fixes for leaking manholes in the community.
