It was a big day for the sport of recreational angling at Chilliwack Heritage Park on Saturday.
Attendance at the All About Fishing 2017 event was about 1600 people, said organizer Rodney Hsu.
“It was a good day for sure,” Hsu said. “There were lots of young families, and lots of good questions being asked.”
There were games and activities for kids at the fishing event, as well as presentations, displays and demos like jig tying, bait preparation, rod making, and more.
The presentations on various angling techniques, a new feature this year, went very well.
There were around 80 to 100 people attending each one.
“Dean Werk’s presentation on sturgeon went on for 1.5 hours because people were so engaged,” said Hsu.
The fly casting section was also expanded with proper casting lanes and qualified instructors giving free lessons all day.
Special thanks went out from organizers to Tourism Chilliwack, Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC and Fraser Valley Salmon Society.
“These three groups make the event possible.”
