Station 37 (Sooke) of the Coast Guard Auxiliary have began to roll out a  “Kids Don’t Float” program.

At the new public boat launch on the water at the Prestige Hotel in Sooke you will find an information board and a selection of children’s PFD’s (personal floatation devices) just hanging around on hooks.

The Kids Don’t Float loaner program is easy to use. Boaters and swimmers may borrow appropriate size lifejackets for children who are with them, free of charge. Upon completion of their marine activity, they simply return the  lifejackets to the display board.

“We will be extending this program to any other interested marina’s in the area in the hope that no child will ever be on the water without a correctly fitting life jacket,” said Rob Roe, Station Leader for Unit 37.
