Kids urged to ‘unplug and play’

ParticipACTION week activities happen all week in Victoria region

Video games, iPads and endless Netflix shows lure kids away from the great outdoors more than ever in 2014, as the average Canadian child now spends up to eight hours in front of a screen daily.

But Crystal Pool and Fitness Centre staff hope to buck that trend by hosting an activity-packed day for ParticipACTION’s Uplug and Play Week on March 27.

“We have a couple of giant boardgames and some of our camp staff are going to lead some active games,” said Lesley Petrie, facility and event co-ordinator at Crystal Pool. “We’ll also have a qualified trainer showing parents and kids how to use our outdoor fitness equipment.”

The event runs Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Central Park, next to Crystal Pool.
