Kimberley’s second quarter policing report

Calls up from first quarter; to be expected with warmer weather Sgt. says

Sgt. Laurie Jalbert delivered the Second Quarter Policing Report to Kimberley City Council last week.

The report outlined administrative and operational issues in the quarter ending at the end June 2012.

It was a fairly typical quarter, Jalbert reported, with requests for service up to 464 calls, 15 per cent prior than the first quarter. However, she says that’s not at all unusual, as calls for service tend to increase as weather improves. Impaired driving charges were also up 50 per cent.

Kimberley RCMP have been keeping an eye on prolific offenders for quite some time now, a program which sees members monitoring the activities of known repeat offenders and making sure they aren’t breaching any terms. Currently, Jalbert says there is only one subject living in Kimberley under court ordered conditions. He is checked at least once a month.

Thirty-two traffic tickets/warnings were issued over four targeted traffic enforcement projects, mostly in school zones.

Eleven drug files were investigated over three months by the Cranbrook/Kimberley Detachment, with 14 persons now facing charges. Five of those investigations were in Kimberley.

While the full JulyFest report won’t be available until the third quarter policing report is delivered, Jalbert says that the police mountain bike patrols were very successful during JulyFest in curbing public consumption of alcohol.
