Kindergarten registration for SD61 starts on Monday

Parents and Guardians of Greater Victoria students must register their kids in their catchments

It’s time to take the first steps towards arranging for a child’s formal education.

Next week the kindergarten registration and kindergarten transfer process will take place for School District 61, allowing parents and guardians to register their child for the upcoming school year.

Kids must be registered at their catchment school, which is determined by their home address.

In order to register, home owners must provide two of the following:

  • Purchase agreement of the home
  • Recent property tax statement
  • Homeowner’s insurance
  • Notice of assessment
  • A purchase agreement (with subject removal and a deposit receipt if it’s a recent purchase)

If a homeowner can only produce one of the above they will also be required to produce two of the following:

  • Canadian bank or credit card statement
  • BC Vehicle registration
  • Income tax statement
  • Insurance documents

Renters must provide:

  • A rental agreement signed by the landlord, with landlords contact phone number

In addition to the above, two of the following are required:

  • Canadian bank or credit card statement
  • BC Vehicle registration
  • Income tax statement
  • Renter Insurance documents

If parents and guardians want to register outside of their designated catchments, they can apply for a transfer request at the same time that they register at their catchment school. English kindergarten registration will be processed on a first-come, first serve basis based on a series of priorities:

  • Re-enrolling students
  • a catchment area sibling
  • a catchment area child
  • a non-catchment sibling
  • a non-catchment child
  • a non-school district child

The kindergarten registration process runs from Jan. 28 to Feb. 1, 2019. The transfer process will follow from Feb. 19-Feb 25. All new grade 1-12 students are also encouraged to register at this time.
