PARKSVILLE — Ed Mayne says he won’t make any promises about Kwalikum Secondary School if he becomes the next premier.
Mayne, the former mayor of Parksville, said he pledged to make no promises during the campaign, but stressed that he has a soft spot for KSS.
“The reality is you only have so many students to go around,” he said. “However, a school is the heart and soul of a community, so to yank it out of Qualicum is a really tough thing to do. I think there has to be a better way to handle this than to close that school down, but I don’t know what that is.”
Mayne said he would take a second look at the issue, although he remains unclear about what, if anything, he would do about it.
“A leader does not get involved in every decision, but this is near and dear to our hearts, so I am going to want to know what the status is,” he said.
“I would want to have that conversation.”
