Ladysmith has a new website, and feedback has been positive so far.
The new www.ladysmith.ca site was launched Nov. 17.
It has the town’s new logo, which was approved at council’s Nov. 7 meeting, and Heritage by the Sea moniker predominately displayed on the top left corner.
The permanent background picture on each page is a view of the water from the city.
“It looks great and it makes our community look beautiful,” said administration services manager Joanna Winter.
“So far, the people in the town are really liking it.”
City hall staff will be testing the site, and a focus group will be conducted this week to get community feedback.
New for this site is a section on sustainability and green living, and business development. In the near future, links to Facebook and YouTube will be added.
Earlier this year, council approved the spending of up to $14,500 to redo the Ladysmith website.
The contract was put to tender, and the winning bid came from Vancouver’s Graphically Speaking.
“What we really liked was the content management,” Winter said, adding that there was a local bidder who wasn’t successful.
“It gives us so much more control. We can add and delete pages, add content, there’s a search feature, things we didn’t have before.”
Ladysmith staff have spent months rewriting copy and uploading reports from the old site to this newer one.
The goal was to have it launched before election day on Nov. 19.
Winter said she is interested in hearing feedback from the community, as this website is the official representation of Ladysmith in the online world.
“We are anxious to have feedback,” Winter added. “We hope people enjoy it and we hope it meets the people’s needs.”
City hall plans to officially announce the site once testing is completed.
