Ladysmith peewee teams first, third at Fenton Memorial Tournament

A pair of Ladysmith teams had success at the Chris Fenton Memorial Tournament in Chemainus earlier this month.

A pair of Ladysmith teams had success at the Chris Fenton Memorial Tournament in Chemainus earlier this month.

Fenton was a model youth, who devoted his free time to umpiring within the Chemainus ball association.

“It is hard to believe 32 years have passed,” read a statement from his mother Rondeau.

“Chris’ annual memorial tournament renews my belief in the youth of today, they are the future, young and strong and fearless. Our family is grateful for the love and strength the tournament has provided us over the years. Thank you.”

The action-packed three day tournament was organized by the Chemainus and District Baseball Association.

The Ladysmith Peewee Orioles secured a first place win, beating the Salt Spring Cougars 13-2. Third place went to the Ladysmith Dodgers who came away with a 11-3 victory over the Duncan Cardinals.

This weekend the mosquitoes will be buzzing around the Chemainus Ball Park for the Larry Hopwo Mosquito Invitational.

The Ladysmith A’s face the Duncan Dodgers to open the tourney on Friday in the early game at 4:30 p.m. while the Ladysmith Pirates take on Oceanside at 6 p.m.

The Ladysmith White Sox go on Saturday versus the Duncan Jays. at 11 a.m.

Finals are Sunday at 4 p.m.
