A children’s book author who also played an orangutan in The Planet of the Apes Trilogy as well as an adventurer who travelled from the UK to China on two wheels will both be at the Ladysmith Waterfront Arts Gallery Centre this coming weekend.
The gallery’s executive director Mary Desprez said the offerings explore different directions in the arts while building on the “enormous success” already happening in the visual arts.
“Visual arts is the priority but there’s all kinds of other arts that we want to explore and embrace,” she said. “This was just a nice way to bring different perspectives to the gallery.”
On Saturday, the Gallery will host Karin Konoval, who has written her first illustrated children’s book, Jeffrey Takes a Walk in December.
An artist and writer, Konoval’s acting resume includes reoccurring roles on numerous TV series such as The Exorcist, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Lucifer, The Magicians, Travelers, Bates Motel, Continuum and a very unique guest star role in the upcoming season of The X Files.
All of the proceeds from the sale of her books will be shared between the gallery and One To One Literacy Society, Vancouver Island.
The first 30 people to purchase a book will also receive a signed photo of Konoval as ‘Maurice’ in The Planet of the Apes Trilogy.
The event starts at 1:30 p.m.
Then on Sunday, Darren Flach will be at the gallery with his book Memoirs of a World Cyclist: UK to China.
Travellers will be eager to hear him discuss his journey on two wheels from London to Kashgar, China.
The event, which runs from 2-3:30 p.m, will feature an introduction, skit, a brief reading and an opportunity to purchase signed copies, as well as mingling and light refreshments.
