The Rotary Club of Lake Country is hosting a volunteer appreciation evening for food bank volunteers in Lake Country Thursday at 7 p.m. in the recreation centre at Holiday Park Resort.
The dedicated volunteers of the Lake Country Food Bank will be thanked by the Lake Country club for their continued work and commitment to our community.
The existing food bank has outgrown its current home at 3130 Berry Road (back of the former Winfield Elementary school site), a space currently shared with the Boys and Girls Club.
The Rotary club says an ever growing need for the food bank’s services has created a strain on day-to-day operations; storage capacity has been exhausted and a lack of amenities for staff and guests is taxing.
Phyllis MacPherson of the Lake Country Food Assistance Society, which runs the Food Bank, has been lobbying for a new location for some time.
The Rotary Club of Lake Country is spearheading the drive to raise funds needed to complete the project. UBC Okanagan Engineering and Okanagan College Trades are on board to assist with the project.
