Langford Council gave second and third readings to two bylaw amendments that would clear the way for a townhouse development on land previously considered to be within the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR).

When Langford completed its Official Community Plan review in 2008, incorrect information had identified the property at 3438 Happy Valley Rd. as being within the ALR, said Matthew Baldwin, director of planning for the City of Langford.  “We were subsequently informed a few years ago that the land was not in the ALR and had never been in the ALR,” Baldwin explained.

The bylaw amendments will ensure the zoning is consistent with the OCP and  amend the OCP in concert with the zoning application, Baldwin said.

Several neighbours expressed concerns over increased traffic and density during a public hearing for the bylaw amendments at council’s meeting on Monday.

The application proposal includes 28 townhouses for the two acre property.
