Langford Fire Rescue was alerted to the house fire 1:55 a.m. and occupants were outside the home when they arrived.

Flames broke the roof open of a home on Bonavista Place in Langford early Thursday morning (June 20).

“The upper floor was fully engulfed,” said Lieut. Brian Bell adding the six residents of the home were outside when the fire crews arrived.

The occupants awoke prior to the smoke alarms sounded. They left the home and called 911 from the neighbours house. The house was also monitored by a private alarm company who also alerted the fire department at the same time.

An RV and boat in the backyard were also destroyed in the fire.

Thirty-three Langford firefighters  were on scene. A Colwood duty officer was also called out to check on embers flying from the house in the neighbourhood.
