The City is rolling out the welcome mat to attract government offices and tech businesses to relocate to Langford.
A special meeting of council was held Nov. 1 to rework the amenities the City offers for a property in an existing mixed-use “employment one” zone, and added two more properties to the zone south west of the Leigh Road Interchange.
The zoning was also amended so that residential components could occur sooner, and staff was directed to prepare a bylaw for a tax holiday for technology businesses, commercial and office within the zone.
Coun. Denise Blackwell said council has long been in favour of offering tax incentives to encourage offices, tech companies and especially government offices to move to Langford.
“This would create more employment in Langford,” she said. As it is now, there are many people in Langford who must deal with the daily commute into Victoria for their government jobs, she noted.
“This would enable people to work in the community they live in.”
