Langford seeks input on ‘Age-Friendly’ plan

City looks to try working ahead using input from people not quite retired

The City of Langford is holding an open house next Thursday (Sept. 25) to get the public’s input as they continue developing their Age-Friendly Action Plan.

The City received an age-friendly community planning and projects grant from the Ministry of Health in November 2013 to develop the action plan, and are now looking to get more input from residents between 50 and 65.

“We’ve had a lot of input from the older population, and now we want to hear from people who aren’t quite retired yet,” said Julia Buckingham, a UVic planning co-op student hired specifically to work on the action plan.

“We just want to find out exactly what people are going to need to stay in Langford as they age.”

Welcome refreshments and information will be available at 7 p.m., followed by a talk at 7:30 p.m. by University of Victoria professor John Meldrum on transitioning to retirement from a number of perspectives, including financially.

At 8 p.m., participants are encouraged to give their suggestions for the City’s action plan regarding outdoor spaces, recreation, community support, housing, transit, health services and social participation and inclusion.

The all-ages open house is at Langford City Hall, 877 Goldstream Ave, in the third floor council chambers.
