The West Shore RCMP Major Crimes Unit is investigating after a witness reported an injured man carrying a handgun while chasing a grey Ford Explorer on Sunday (Dec. 1).
West Shore RCMP were called at 2:14 p.m. to a residence in the 900-block on Rattanwood Place in Langford. “We can confirm the unknown suspect or suspects did enter the residence of the victim,” said Cst. Sarah Becket, of West Shore RCMP.
Six RCMP officers arrived on scene and the Victoria Police K-9 Unit was also called in, but was unable to locate the driver or the vehicle.
The 28-year victim is known to police and is not co-operating with the investigation. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening head injuries. RCMP did not disclose how the man was injured.
RCMP confiscated a handgun, ammunition and a small amount of narcotics from the from the victim’s home.RCMP believe the handgun is the same one the victim was carrying when the vehicle left.
Police have not determined if the narcotics belonged to the victim or the suspect.
The victim was not arrested, “At this point we are treating him as a victim,” said Beckett.
There is no description available for the SUV driver who was last seen heading down Happy Valley Road.
“This happened in broad daylight and someone must have seen something,” said Cpl. Kathy Rochlitz, West Shore RCMP. “We believe this is a targeted situation and believe two individuals know each other.”
Without the victim’s co-operation and only one witness to a portion of the events, RCMP are unable to provide any other information.
