At a ceremony inside Langley City Fire Hall on Tuesday, six firefighters were given medals for collectively giving 118 years of fire and rescue service.
Assistant fire chief Pete Methot and firefighters Brent Perry and James Clark were pinned with the federal fire service exemplary service medal for 20 years of firefighting.
Methot, who has been a firefighter since 1981, along with firefighters Murray Hess and Anthony Crawford were given the B.C. long service medal award for 25 years or more of service.
City Fire Chief Rory Thompson was also given the exemplary service medal for reaching the 30 year bar. City Mayor Peter Fassbender handed out the awards.
“These medals are a recognition of the time and dedication you have provided and a symbol of your desire to make a difference.
“It is much appreciated,” said Fassbender.
He said the dynamics of the firefighter’s job has shifted, dealing more with medical calls than fires.
Thompson took over as fire chief last year.
