A Langley man was arrested in Grande Prairie on drug and weapons issues about a month after a previous arrest in the Alberta city.
Karman Singh Grewal, 24, is one of seven people arrested Nov. 16 when the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) executed warrants on four homes.
Three firerms, including a loaded shotgun, and more than $40,000 in drugs and cash were seized.
ALERT’s investigation began in late October after information was received about drug activity in the Grande Prairie region.
A total of 38 charges have been laid in relation to drug and firearms offences.
Seized were the loaded handgun with serial number defaced, two other shotguns, 253 grams of cocaine; six grams of heroin; 78 grams of crack cocaine; 14 grams of methamphetamine; 40 grams of marijuana; and $6,695 in cash.
Grewal was charged with two counts of possession of drugs, possession of proceeds of crime, and three counts breach of recognizance.
Grewal’s breach charges stem from a previous ALERT investigation that took place in October 2016.
In October he and another B.C. man were arrested in an ALERT drug investigation.
In the October incident the drugs found were estimated at a value of more than $150,000, and included a kilogram of cocaine, 146 fentanyl pills, 155 grams of marijuana, 175 millilitres of GHB, two body armour vests, and more than $56,000 in cash.
“The seizure and the disruption of this criminal group will help to reduce the negative community impact created by the local drug trade,” said Supt. Don McKenna, officer in charge of the Grande Prairie RCMP.
In October Grewal has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.
In one of the homes searched Nov. 16, three young children were found living amongst drug trafficking paraphernalia, a large amount of cocaine, and a loaded, unsecure shotgun. The children were placed in the care of a family member and a 31-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were arrested.
