Langley Mounties have recovered almost $70,000 worth of stolen items after an officer noticed a single suspicious car on a Willoughby lot.
On July 27, Langley Township bylaw officers asked for police to help while they inspected a property in the 20100 block of 84th Avenue.
The bylaw officials just wanted RCMP help because there were two large dogs on the property, said Cpl. Holly Largy, spokesperson for the Langley RCMP.
The police noticed a vehicle, stolen from Abbotsford, parked on the property.
Another look around revealed that some other vehicles had incorrect license plate numbers, or had had their VINs scratched off, said Largy.
Several known property crime offenders frequented the home.
With the stolen and suspicious cars, police had enough evidence to apply for a search warrant for the acreage and the buildings on it.
A full search on July 28 uncovered stolen tools, computers, electronics, vehicles, a tractor, cash, drugs, and a variety of IDs including stolen driver’s licenses and Canadian passports.
Owners for some of the stolen property have been identified, but police are still trying to find out where some building supplies came from. The supplies include porcelain and steel sinks, rock fascia, compressors, nails, a grinder, faucets, and a tankless water heater. The items were likely stolen from construction sites.
A stolen trailer has also not been returned to its owner, due to the removal of a serial number.
It’s proving difficult to link specific suspects to the stolen items because of the number of people who frequented or lived in the house, Largy said.
