A 17-year-old Langley boy has been charged with robbery after trying to take a man’s Sony tablet.

On Feb. 15, Langley RCMP were called about a fight in the middle of the road in the 27200 block of 32 Avenue.

Police attended and determined the accused had attempted to grab a young man’s electronic device while the victim was sitting in the mall in the 3100 block of 272 Street.

The teen charged with robbery was accompanied by a second boy wearing a black and blue hoody.

The tablet owner held tight and the two struggled over the item, said police.  The youth was able to gain control of the tablet and ran away on foot.  Not willing to part with his tablet, the owner gave chase.

When the three were close, the unidentified teen in the hoody sprayed the tablet owner in the face with pepper spray.  The victim took hold of the youth who ran with the tablet and the two struggled in the street until the original complainant returned to assist him so the suspect could be held until police arrived.

Unfortunately the boy in the hoody made off with the tablet and has not been identified, said police.

Witnesses remained at the scene and provided statements to police which were extremely helpful in getting the charge approval, said police.
