The Katzie First Nation signed a services agreement for water and sewage treatment, as well as fire protection, with the Township March 7.
The new agreement replaces two previous ones – a 30-year water services agreement signed in 1989 and a 10-year sewer services agreement signed in 2008 – and officially formalizes fire protection services for the Katzie First Nation Indian Reserve No. 2, located at the west end of Allard Crescent along the Fraser River.
The Township has always provided fire protection services to the reserve. This agreement formalizes the service and combines three agreements into one document. The services agreement also “provides clear expectations for all parties should an emergency arise,” according to a Township press release.
The agreement was signed between Katzie First Nation Chief Susan Miller and Township Mayor Jack Froese in a ceremony attended by members of the Township council, representatives from the Township Fire Department, and Band Council members Rick Bailey, Robin Green, and Peter James.
