Lantzville enters social media fray

NANAIMO – The District of Lantzville began a Twitter account after council agreed to a new social media policy.

Lantzville residents have a new way of getting district business.

The District of Lantzville made its first tweets last week, after council approved a new social media policy.

Chief administrative officer Brad McRae said the social media account will be a “conduit out” rather than a conduit in and provide information on what’s going on with council and committee of the whole meetings and district business.

The district will start with Twitter and consider the time commitment of using other social media platforms. McRae will be chiefly responsible for the social media posts.

“We are going to dip our toe into the water instead of jumping in face first,” he said.

He also considers social media just one of the district’s arms to reach the public. There will be audio visual of council meetings, the district has a website and a monthly newsletter.

The social media policy lays out the goals of social media and appropriate use.
