Lantzville thanked the City of Nanaimo with a signed, sealed and delivered letter.
Brad McRae, District of Lantzville’s chief administrative officer, hand-delivered a letter to the City of Nanaimo yesterday, which thanks Nanaimo politicians for allowing Lantzville Mayor Colin Haime and McRae to appear as a delegation in front of Nanaimo council and raise their desire to amend the current Lantzville-Nanaimo water agreement.
“We thanked them for allowing us to speak, reiterates the three points that were requested under the amendments, and requesting that they provide us with a response within 30 days so that we can get moving based on the fact that we have to start our water master plan,” McRae said.
The District of Lantzville is hoping to amend the water supply deal that it signed with the City of Nanaimo in 2014. The current deal allows for water connections to be made to a maximum of 225 homes in upper Lantzville, plus 50 new development connections each year. There is also the future possibility of connecting to an additional 211 homes that are currently on private wells.
Among the amendments that Lantzville is hoping to make to the agreement, which has not yet commenced, is the ability for water to be piped to existing residents in Lantzville instead of just new developments.
McRae said that if the City of Nanaimo doesn’t bother to reply within 30 days, Lantzville council will have to make a decision as to whether they wish to execute the current agreement.
The water agreement can only be enacted if Lantzville pays $1.3 million to the City of Nanaimo in exchange for water supplied to it.
