A bush fire near UBC Okanagan was doused quickly Friday night, but firefighters still don’t know what caused it.
At approximately 5:22p.m. Friday the Kelowna Fire Department responded to reports of a large bush/grass fire just southeast of Academy Way/John Hindle Drive in Kelowna.
“The Kelowna Fire Department contained the fire quickly and is now in the process of installing a fire guard around the perimeter,” said Platoon Captain Dennis Miller. “The fire was approximately 200 feet by 80 feet in size.”
The Kelowna Fire Department reminds everyone that open fires including camp fires are illegal and contrary to the city bylaw and are not permitted in the City of Kelowna.
Two engines, two bush trucks, a water tender, a command unit and the KFD ATV Gator responded to the scene.
