Penticton residents have until Jan. 13 to provide feedback on how they want Skaha Lake Park to evolve.

The city is hosting three online workshops this week going over the proposed options for improving the east part of the park.

Three proposed options for the development of the park were presented to city council on Sept. 15, ranging in cost from $2 million to $2.82 million.

The most expensive at $2,815,162 would maintain support for the existing mix of motorized and non-motorized water sports, build a new boathouse on the existing footprint, provide a like-for-like replacement of the marina, boardwalk seating along the lakeshore and a pedestrian loop around the parking lot.

At $2,412,490 the middle cost option would also see the construction of a new boathouse, but would change marina use to short-term with no long-term moorage. It would also convert some of the paved area around the marina to green space, while maintaining the cafe and providing kayak and paddleboard rentals.

The least expensive option at $2,055,194 would shift the focus to non-motorized, including refurbishing the marina as a paddling centre and turning the marina docks for use by the paddling community. The boat launch and trailer parking would remain for use by the motorized boating community.

The online workshops will involve a combination of Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee members, representatives of recreation and community groups as well as members of the general public.

To participate, residents can email getconnected@penticton.ca to register for one of the following dates: community workshop one Jan. 7, at 6 p.m. to 7:30, workshop two from 12 pm to 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 and #three will run from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 9.

The presentations in the workshop are also available online at shapeyourcitypenticton.ca.

Printed copies of the feedback forms and workshop materials are available at City Hall and the Penticton Library.

Following the information and feedback gathered by the city, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee will develop a draf plan that will then be presented for a decision to council.
