Legion gears up for all things Irish

So if you have been around the Legion this week you will already know that no one has won the ROLLCALL yet – the jackpot is over $60.

If you don’t remember how this works, everyone who is a paid up Branch 94 member has their name in a draw bucket and every weekday at 12:30 p.m. one name is drawn – if you are at the Legion at that time – you win – on the weekend the draw is made at 3:30 p.m.

Nothing to purchase, no money out of your pocket to get in on this – simply be at the Legion enjoying yourself and you may just be the jackpot winner this week.   Someone has to win it eventually.

Feb. 18 Theresa Annett is hosting her famous “real Uke perogies.”

Starting at 4 p.m. you can dine on this wonderful staple. If you are interested you can even buy some frozen to take home and cook at your leisure.

After you have finished eatting your perogies on Friday night, you can wander over to the hall to enjoy the rock/metal jam night.

If you have not tried it or think this just does not sound like your style – why not give it a try – you may surprise yourself.

Just to give you all a heads up, the Comeau Invitational dart Shoot is scheduled for the weekend of March 6.

This is a popular event and if you have any interest at all in this sporting event you might want to wander down sometime during that weekend to watch the best displaying their skills – you may even pick up a pointer or two.

Also coming up March 17 is the St. Patrick’s Day stew and biscuit event.

This should prove to be a very entertaining night with ‘all things Irish’ happening – along with your Irish meal, you will be entertained by local harpists as well as the “Dreamgirls” singing a variety of Irish songs for you.

Maybe if you wear something green, you may get kissed by a leprachaun –anything can happen on that magical day – green beer did you say?

Well, Roger, Denis and Ellen have been busy applying for grants to get major upgrades done in the Legion kitchen.

If all goes well, these upgrades should provide a more  ergonomically friendly workspace.

Now just think how that will please those generous LA ladies – they work hard enough. Everything that can be done to help them out is a bonus.

The new security system has been installed and should be up and running by Monday, the 14 – now that is Valentine’s Day and this is a sweetheart of a security system that should better protect memorabilia as well as business items at your beloved Legion.

A lot of time and effort was spent by Wanda, your Legion manager in order to get the best system for the best price.

Maybe say a ‘thank you’ to her the next time you are there. You are definately in good hands with Wanda overseeing these major purchases.

Building and maintenance overseer Roger Williamson has been busy not only with the kitchen upgrades but with redoing the storage areas in the hall – everything has been installed to protect the walls in there when stacking chairs.

Things have been cleared out and separated into local areas. All weight room supplies and mats that accomodate our Keenager exercise classes provided by Heather Hartridges’ instructors, have been separated and stored in the AV room, so everything has it own space. Alot of work for our busy maintenance director.

If you are on Facebook you can access all the upcoming events at the Legion by typing in Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 94.

So if you need to know about a special event coming up, this is just one more way to retrieve this information, besides this column, of course.
