Esketemc First Nation Chief Fred Robbins places a poppy wreath on the new cenotaph at Alkali Lake Reserve, in memory of the Secwepemc Second World War veterans from Esk’et. There are seven names on the brass plate affixed to the newly built cenotaph. The honoured veterans names are as follows: Duncan Robbins, Mabel Belleau, Tony Harry, Adolph Johnson, Francis and Garnet Squinahan and Charlie Sampson. The memorial, according to Chief Robbins and Councilor Irvine Johnson, is also intended to serve as a tribute (and remembrance reminder) to all of the Secwepemc people who have survived in spite of many challenges (smallpox) that came with the Caucasion immigration (gold seekers and adventurers) to their homeland.
Lest we forget
