The doors on the Penticton Public Library, along with the museum and auditorium in the same complex, are going to be closed until at least Thursday.
The City of Penticton closed the library Sunday after an electrical equipment failure that is going to take a few days to repair.
“The main transformer for the building has blown. Crews are still on site troubleshooting the situation and trying to find the root cause of the failure,” said Bregje Kozak, manager of facilities. “It is a specialty part that will have to be shipped from the coast. We expect it will take a few days to install after it arrives.”
The library is running on emergency power to ensure water service does not freeze. Security is also onsite to secure the building. The book drop is open if the public would like to return books.
“We’d appreciate it if people would wait until we’re open to return their items and fines will be waived if they’re overdue,” said Heather Buzzell, chief librarian.
The City of Penticton said they will keep the community updated on when the complex will reopen.
