Vernon’s new library has earned provincial accolades.
The new Okanagan Regional Library branch received a Silver Award of Excellence for General Contractor up to $15 Million by the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA).
The building, constructed by Task Construction Management, earned the award alongside EllisDon Corporation’s Samuel Brighouse Elementary School and Stuart Olson Dominion Construction’s Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA) L 10K Fit-out.
The Silver Award winners in this category represent the region’s construction leaders, and are part of the 25th annual Awards of Excellence.
“The Silver Award winners this year all represent companies that were able to bring projects of the highest calibre in on time and on budget,” said Jan Robinson, interim president of VRCA.
Three Silver Award winners were selected in most categories for their use of innovative techniques, new materials or exceptional project management. One Silver Award winner from each category will be chosen as the Gold Award winner during the 25th Annual VRCA Awards of Excellence gala dinner on Oct. 17 at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
“We are especially excited to make the announcement about this year’s competition, as the Awards of Excellence is celebrating its 25th anniversary,” said Robinson. “This is a significant milestone, and we are planning a special and appropriately significant event this year.”
In this year’s competition, there were 42 total entrants and 38 projects considered. Over the 25 years the competition has been in place, the value of the projects has grown tremendously, and the total value of projects considered in this year’s competition represented $1.1 billion of construction throughout B.C.
“The judges were extremely impressed with the high quality of the projects nominated this year,” said Tony Everett, chair of the Adjudication Committee. “All the Silver Award winners are true leaders in the industry, and we are proud to honour them at this year’s milestone event.”
The 2013 competition will feature redesigned trophies, as well as other exciting changes to commemorate the 25th anniversary and represent the competition going forward, all of which will be unveiled at the awards ceremony in October.
