The Royal B.C. Museum is now totally accessible for those with mobility issues – well, almost.
Until recently, the First Peoples Gallery could not be accessed by wheelchairs and other mobility equipment. It could only be reached by stairs.
Last week, a new vertical lift that lets people by-pass the stairs in the First Peoples Gallery was opened.
The elevator-like lift, funded by provincial and federal grants, required electrical upgrades and steel supports to be installed.
A few other areas of the museum are not accessible to those who cannot navigate stairs: the Grand Hotel in the re-created old town, the small mining display and the ship exhibit HMS Discovery.
