A holiday tradition that bolsters health care is shining bright.

While the Light A Bulb campaign got off to a slow start, $226,053 of the $250,000 goal has now been raised to equip the two top floors at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.

“We continue to be amazed by the generosity of our community,” said Sue Beaudry, VJH Foundation director of development.

“Annual donations are the life blood of our hospital.”

In the last five days almost $40,000 has been received for the 2014 campaign, including from a resident who donated $17,000 in publicly traded securities.

Donations have also come from the Army, Navy and Air Force Ladies’ Auxiliary and Grizzly Curb and Concrete.

But with 10 per cent of the fundraising goal remaining, community support is still needed.

“To ensure that your 2013 tax deductible donation is received by midnight Dec. 31, you can make a donation online at www.vjhfoundation.org,” said Beaudry.

Or you can mail your cheque to VJH Foundation, 2101 32nd St., Vernon, B.C. V1T 5L2.
