In a scene that will likely be played out at municipal halls across the Okanagan today, West Kelowna residents will be lined up to pay their property taxes prior to the 4:30 p.m. deadline today for filing without a penalty.

More than 13,000 property owners in West Kelowna will be called upon to pay their taxes, the tax notices for which were sent out in May.

While concerns about a postal strike have been alleviated for the moment with Canada Post making a new offer for its unionized workers to consider, to avoid possible late filing penalties at this point, West Kelowna residents who have not yet paid their property taxes are encouraged to pay via one of the following options:

·         In person, online or by telephone banking through most Canadian financial institutions; or

·         Via courier or in person directly to West Kelowna City Hall at 2760 Cameron Road, West Kelowna

Any current taxes not paid by the close of business on July 4 are subject to a 10 per cent penalty. Those who are unable to pay their full taxes can reduce their penalty by paying as much as possible and claiming their homeowner grant by the due date.

For Kelowna residents, there is a dropbox to avoid standing in line at City Hall, 1435 Water St.

In Lake Country, the municipal hall is located at 10150 Bottom Wood Lake Rd.
